This technique is following this path: SP → IGC files on Palm → SPTerm via serial cradle captures IGC files to files on PC.

This technique works only when you have a serial cradle for your Palm 1)

• serial cradle or IR transfer via IrCOMM2k driver (do a search on Google).
• Latest version of SPTerm (can be downloaded from SP site) if you use a Windows desktop, for linux you can use standard command line tools to capture the serial data stream into a file. This procedure is described on the Load & Save Configuration page.

Make sure the Data Xfer Type setting in the NMEA/Port config of SP is set to serial transfer. Also check the baudrate and handshake protocol (hardware handshake is recommended for higher baudrates). If you want to try IR transfer using IrCOMM2K then of course select IR here. Note for some plug-in GPS systems like GPS Companion it is required to remove the GPS otherwise it will lock the serial port on the Palm.
Make sure the serial port on your PC is not locked by f.i. the Palm Hotsync Manager
Place Palm in serial cradle and hook up with free COM port on PC if not done so already. When you do IR transfer make sure to use the COM port created by IrCOMM2k.
Start SPTerm on the PC
Make sure the serial port settings match with the settings on your Palm:
Click the Open Port button on SPTerm. You should see the LED change from red to green.
Use the built in IGC file name generator of SPTerm (under ‘IGC Name’ menu command) to generate a valid IGC file name
Use the ‘Copy to clipboard’ menu command and Exit the IGC name generator
Select Downloads in SPTerm and when the Save As... dialog pops up paste the IGC file name from the previous step into the file name edit field
On your Palm open the Settings → Transfer screen and select Flights/Logs button.
Select the flight you want to transfer and hit the TRANSMIT button. The Transferring Data! Please Wait... dialog will pop up.
When all is well (cables, baud rate, handshake, etc.) you should see your IGC file scrolling by in the SPTerm window on the PC side
When all data is transfered ‘Finished Sending Data’ will show on the Palm and SPTerm should show the G-records of the IGC file, use the Dwnld Stop button on SPTerm to close the file.
Repeat the previous 7 steps for other Flights/Logs

Now that was easy now, wasn’t it These steps may look very complicated and tedious but you soon get the hang of it when you’ve done it a few times.
