A few guidelines to help make the look-and-feel of the content as homogeneous as possible:

1. Please do not remove any of the current Index items without checking with me first. If you remove the items it orphans the underlying content files.
2. As with the current pages, all new pages should start with an H1 heading that describes the contents of the page. The software uses this initial heading as the title that’s displayed for that page at the top and in any of the auto-generated indexes.
3. Please make good use of the various headings and numbered/bulleted lists to help make the content clearer. In addition, these headings are used when the auto-generated indexes and Table of Contents are created.
4. You will find that graphics items can easily be uploaded for use in your documents. Paul has been kindly going though and creating screenshots for many of the pages. I am going to try to get the various button graphics migrated over soon so that they can be used by everyone. Graphic reuse is a good thing as it saves on space. In order to keep from overwhelming Oliver’s webhosting allowance for diskspace, please keep any individual graphic you upload to 500K or less. Preferably, it would be nice if they were under 256K. Oliver Spatzcheck is the original creator of SoarPilot. I took over the project from him several years ago. However, he has graciously provided the SP webspace free of charge over the years. I don’t want to \\”over stay our welcome\\” by taking up too much space.
5. If you need additional screenshots or other graphics that you can’t come up with, let Paul and I know (through the yahoogroup is fine) and we’ll try to put something together for you.
6. When creating your documents, please put all references to the text of onscreen buttons or checkbox/sections in bolded letters. Use Avg Lift for MC Value is an example. If you reference a hardware or silkscreen button, please put those in italics and bolded (ex. Calendar Button).
7. To establish a convention for the naming of the buttons, please use the following:
   • Calendar button - Far left hardware button on most Palm PDA‘s
   • Phone button - Second hardware button from the left.
   • Todo button - Second hardware button from the right
   • Memo button - Far right hardware button
   • Home button - Top left silkscreen button on most Palm PDA‘s
   • Menu button - Bottom left silkscreen button
   • Calc button - Top right silkscreen button which normally opens the calculator. Some PalmOS PDA‘s do not have this button.
   • Find button - Bottom right silkscreen button.
   • Up button - Top part or top button of the up/down rocker/buttons on most PDA‘s. On devices with the 5-way rocker, it is still the top selection.
   • Down button - Bottom part or Bottom button of the up/down rocker/buttons on most PDA‘s. On devices with the 5-way rocker, it is still the bottom selection.
   • 5-Way Right button - On devices with the 5-way pad, this is pressing the right side of the pad.
   • 5-Way Left button - On devices with the 5-way pad, this is pressing the left side of the pad.
   • Rec button - Some devices (iQue, Tungsten) have a small button on the side of the PDA that is used to start the voice recording option. In SP this is used to select waypoints for either GOTO or for a task. It has the same function as the Calc button.
   • Esc button - Some devices (iQue) have a small button on the side of the PDA that is normally used to easily take you back to the program selection screen in PalmOS. In SP this is used to take you back to the Final Glide page or to the Moving Map if you are on the Final Glide screen. It has the same function as the Home button.
   • Power button - Self-explanatory I think
   • Side Dial button - Some devices (iQue) have a rocker dial on the side of the device that you can push up and down. You can also press it in. In SP, the up/down motion acts just like the Up and Down buttons. The press in function is mapped to creating a new manual waypoint.
8. Due to the fact that we will probably be making large changes to the site for a while, to minimize overlap between editors, please add your name & sections you are working on to the Editing Reservation Page.

If you already have some content created in either MS Word, OpenOffice or HTML format, there are some scripts and/or online converters that are available. You can find them at:

One note about all of them. They will probably create external links to graphics. I’m not sure about the OpenOffice or MS Office ones but the HTML ones did. So you will have to go back and edit them a bit to get them pointed to any graphics you upload locally.
